Every day, we see how surrogacy changes lives by helping families come together. We are honored to walk alongside you in this meaningful role. Abundant Beginnings Co. (ABC Surrogacy) was created by two women with more than 30 years of combined experience in the field of surrogacy. Our professional expertise, combined with our own personal surrogacy journeys, allows us to offer clear and compassionate guidance to anyone considering becoming a surrogate in Alabama.

As an independent, privately operated agency, we have built a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to supporting you through every stage of the process. While Alabama does not yet have a specific statute that regulates surrogacy agreements, families successfully grow through surrogacy here with the help of knowledgeable attorneys and a court process that establishes parentage. Our role is to make sure you have the resources and guidance to move forward with confidence.

We understand the emotional, physical, and legal considerations that come with surrogacy. From your first screening and match coordination to medical support and legal steps after delivery, we work to make each phase of the journey as clear and manageable as possible for surrogates in Alabama. If you are curious about surrogacy in Alabama or ready to take the next step, our caring and knowledgeable team is here to answer your questions. Together, we can help intended parents achieve their dream of family while ensuring you feel valued, respected, and fully supported throughout your journey.

Why Be A Surrogate?

Becoming a surrogate involves big commitment, but ultimately brings the reward of helping create new families.

Compensation & Costs

For a first-time surrogate in Alabama, base compensation typically ranges between $55,000 and $75,000. This amount reflects the significant commitment you are making—physically, emotionally, and in terms of your time.

If you have previous experience as a surrogate, your base compensation may be higher, often $85,000 or more, to recognize the dedication and knowledge you bring to the process.

Additional Benefits

Beyond your base compensation, Alabama surrogates also receive reimbursements and stipends to cover pregnancy-related costs. These are designed to support your comfort and wellbeing throughout your journey. They may include:

  • Maternity Clothing Allowance: A set stipend for clothing and other essentials during pregnancy.
  • Medical Insurance: Intended parents typically secure or cover a comprehensive policy for prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care.
  • Monthly Allowance: An ongoing stipend to cover incidental expenses such as parking fees for doctor’s appointments, phone calls, or other small costs.
  • Childcare and Travel Costs: Childcare expenses for your own family are usually covered, as well as reimbursement for travel to medical appointments (fuel, lodging if needed, etc.).
  • $4,000 Signing Bonus: A one-time payment when you sign your surrogacy agreement, honoring your commitment from the very beginning.

When these additional benefits are factored in, the total compensation package for an Alabama surrogate often approaches or exceeds $80,000.

Health Insurance & Coverage

Because Alabama does not have a specific statute regulating surrogacy, it is essential to work with an agency and legal team that ensure intended parents provide a comprehensive health insurance policy for you. This coverage includes all pregnancy-related medical needs.

You should not be responsible for out-of-pocket costs tied to the surrogacy. Deductibles, co-payments, and any uncovered expenses are the responsibility of the intended parents. If your current health insurance does not cover surrogacy, the intended parents will secure an appropriate policy or address any gaps.

Alabama Surrogate Requirements

At ABC Surrogacy, we carefully screen and support each potential surrogate to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone involved.

Age and Health

We typically work with surrogates US Citizens who are between 21 and 40 years old. This age range balances physical readiness for pregnancy with overall health and lifestyle considerations. A Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18 and 32 is recommended, as maintaining a healthy weight helps reduce medical risks during pregnancy.

Pregnancy History

Before becoming a surrogate, you must have successfully carried at least one pregnancy to term without major complications. This confirms your ability to handle the physical demands of pregnancy and gives you personal experience with what to expect.

Medical and Psychological Screening

Each surrogate completes a thorough medical evaluation to confirm overall wellness and identify any health factors that could affect the pregnancy. You will also meet with a licensed mental health professional for a psychological assessment. This step helps ensure you are emotionally prepared for the responsibilities of surrogacy and have the right support in place.

Background Check

As part of our standard process, we conduct a background check for you and your partner, if applicable. This helps ensure there are no legal or ethical concerns that could impact your journey or the intended parents’ confidence.

Legal Representation

Alabama does not have a statute regulating surrogacy agreements, which makes it especially important that every surrogate works with her own independent attorney.

Your attorney will review the surrogacy contract, explain your rights and responsibilities, and guide you through the legal process, including the court order that secures parentage. This safeguard ensures you move forward with clarity and peace of mind.

Surrogacy for LGBTQ+ Families

At Abundant Beginnings, we believe every family deserves the chance to grow. We proudly support intended parents of all backgrounds and offer equal opportunities to surrogates who want to help create families, regardless of sexual orientation or marital status.

If you choose to become a surrogate with us, you may have the opportunity to support diverse family structures such as same-sex couples, single parents, or other unique family configurations. Each journey is handled with sensitivity, respect, and professionalism, with recognition that every family’s needs are unique.

Our role is to ensure you feel valued and supported throughout the journey. From legal protections to emotional guidance, we work to make the process clear and reassuring for everyone involved.

When you partner with Abundant Beginnings, you join a welcoming community that respects your contribution and honors your role in helping build loving, diverse families in Alabama.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I earn as a surrogate?

First-time surrogates typically earn $55,000-$70,000 in base compensation, while experienced surrogates can receive over $70,000. With additional benefits like maternity clothing, medical insurance, monthly allowance, and childcare, total compensation can reach $85,000+. Payments are distributed throughout pregnancy and post-delivery.

What are the basic requirements to become a surrogate?

You must be between 21-40 years old with a BMI of 18-32, have had at least one healthy pregnancy and birth, and be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. You’ll need to pass medical and psychological evaluations and background checks. Your partner (if applicable) will also need to pass background screening.

How long does the screening process take and what’s involved?

The screening process includes three main components: medical screening with a Reproductive Endocrinologist (including physical exam and lab work), psychological evaluation with personality testing, and criminal background checks for all adults in your household. This ensures both physical and emotional readiness for surrogacy.

Will I have to pay any medical costs during the surrogacy?

No, surrogates don’t pay any out-of-pocket medical costs. The intended parents are responsible for all pregnancy-related expenses, including insurance premiums, deductibles, and copayments. If your existing insurance doesn’t cover surrogacy, the intended parents will provide separate coverage.
