Some surrogacy journeys change one life. This one changed several.
When our surrogate first matched with Dawson, a single intended father, she went in simply wanting to help someone build a family. What she didn’t expect was that the experience would move her to tears at a newborn photoshoot, inspire her sister to become a surrogate herself, and lead to conversations about a sibling journey just four months after delivery.
This is her story — in her own words.
1. What inspired you to become a surrogate?
Her reason for becoming a surrogate was straightforward and deeply generous: she wanted to help people create a family when they couldn’t do it on their own. But choosing this particular match? That was something she followed on instinct.
“I had been through a few matches and this one just felt right. I’m a full believer that things work out how they are supposed to.”
2. Was she always open to carrying for any type of family?
Without hesitation — yes.
“I have always been open to carrying for any type of family. As long as they had the want and ability to love a child, I wanted to help.”
3. How did the relationship with her intended parents develop?
What started as pleasant, surface-level communication transformed into something much deeper — and it happened in person.
“He flew in for my 20-week scan and actually stayed with us for a few days. I feel like after that, we became family. We’re currently four months postpartum and we still talk several times a week.”
4. What surprised her most about the journey?
She describes herself as someone who doesn’t typically show emotions — which makes what happened at the newborn photoshoot all the more powerful.
“I have never been a cry-or-show-your-emotions kind of person. But I was able to join their newborn photoshoot, and seeing them together made me cry. I was overwhelmed with happiness watching him glow while holding her. Being a part of that process has made me in awe of the whole thing. Truly grateful to be a piece in their life puzzle.”
5. How did her family support her?
Her family was supportive and curious throughout the entire journey. But the story took an unexpected and beautiful turn.
“My sister was so interested in the process that she became a surrogate herself!”
6. Do they stay in touch after the birth?
They set realistic expectations from the beginning — and what has unfolded has exceeded all of them.
“We were very open from the start that we were both open to keeping in touch but also understanding that life gets busy. Currently we talk a few times a week, and we’re in talks of doing a sibling journey. His family has been asking when I’m going to visit. Time to update my passport!”
7. What does it mean to her personally?
She went into surrogacy wanting to help. What she didn’t expect was how deeply it would affect her.
“It’s honestly surreal. I think I went into this wanting to just help out a family, not realizing the monumental impact it would actually have. Every time I get an updated picture, I can see how much she has grown. It’s simply amazing to be on the outside orbit of watching her life progress.”
8. What would she say to a woman considering surrogacy?
“Be honest with yourself. Listen to the voice in your heart. Don’t try to force anything — really take the time to think about what you want out of this process.”
9. What does she hope other women take away?
“As crazy as the highs and lows have been — including a failed transfer — the support from the agency and my intended father has been phenomenal. I went into this thinking I wouldn’t feel the impact of this journey, and I truly feel that it has enriched my life.”
10. How would she describe the experience in one word?
“Mind-Blowing.”
We are so grateful for surrogates like her — women who show up with open hearts, follow their instincts, and end up changing far more lives than they ever imagined.
