I’m completing my second surrogacy journey, and am happy to report the birth of this precious baby girl! Both the mom and dad got to be in the OR during the C-Section. Normally, the hospital only lets one person be back there but they made an exception since it was a surrogacy pregnancy. My IPs were glad they both got to experience her birth. The mom held my hand and was very supportive during the C-Section. The baby’s gender was a surprise. So, everyone in the OR was guessing what they thought the gender would be and it added to the excitement to find out during her birth. The room was filled with awes when everyone heard her first precious little cry. She was born at 37 weeks and 4 days. Even being a little early, she still weighed 7 pounds and 9 ounces. Everyone is home and is doing great! I know her amazing parents and sweet older sister are so excited.
My husband and daughters were very supportive throughout the journey. I am very thankful for my husband throughout this process. He has been there whenever I needed him, from taking care of my chickens to putting up with all my wonderful pregnancy hormones. My girls have been great too. They are old enough (ages 17 and 11) to understand the surrogate process. When asked about it, my oldest said “It was definitely a journey for the entire family but watching my mom help other families was very inspiring.” The girls came to the hospital the day after her birth and got to see and hold the baby before she was discharged. That was something I really wanted because I felt like it helps them with closure being able to see the baby with her family.
If you are considering surrogacy, I truly believe you are a special person. I know it is not a decision that should be taken lightly and it is not for everyone. No one can promise a prefect journey where everything goes according to plan without difficulties. But in spite of the challenges I faced, this was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I am truly grateful for the families I helped and for their friendship. I will cherish them and this experience for the rest of my life. If this is something you have thought about, I strongly encourage you to reach out the ladies at Abundance Beginnings. They are wonderful people and I am so grateful for them.
Thank you Nicole, Julie, and Stacie for all the support you have given me along both of these journeys. Y’all are amazing!
