Oddly enough, this is my second most favorite part of my surrogacy journey, the first being the moment the parents get to hold their baby.

The decision for me to become a surrogate started over 10 years ago when I was in college. I played volleyball and one of my teammates who was also a roommate and to this day, a dear friend, had epilepsy. There were many discussions about her fears surrounding the issue and what her path to motherhood might actually look like.

I cannot believe we're halfway through the pregnancy already!  Things have been moving along very smoothly, which is just how I like it!  With my due date *just* 137 days away, my Intended Parents have begun doing some work to get ready for the baby. 

Once it was confirmed that the embryo transfer was successful, the reproductive clinic scheduled me for the first ultrasound. On the date of the appointment, I was 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant.  Here's an interesting fact most people aren't aware of: on the day of the embryo transfer, I was already considered 2w5d pregnant!

I recently helped another family become parents through surrogacy, and below is a little bit about my journey.  The journey was so amazing and beyond my dreams, so it is difficult to put in words.  I hope you are inspired to help others after reading this, as giving the gift of life has been one of my greatest and most rewarding joys.

On the morning of 12 days post embryo transfer (or 12dpt), I was finally off to the lab to get my blood drawn.  This test is the “official” pregnancy test issued by the reproductive clinic.  I had been taking home pregnancy tests for a while and was pretty certain we would have a good result. 

A couple of weeks ago I had another embryo transfer.  I know many surrogates are curious as to what happens at an embryo transfer, so I hope you find this blog helpful!  Every clinic is different and the protocol and requirements are different, so please remember that my experience may not be the same as yours.

Retrospect is a wonderful vantage point. So wonderful, in fact, it should be made into a vacation spot. Looking back, I should have followed my intuition. But, instead, I kept remembering my mother’s bladder control problems after multiple pregnancies.
